Toshiro Kodera received Dr. Eng. from Kyoto Institute of Technology in 2001, In 2001, he joined Osaka Institute of Technology, and in 2005 he joined Wave Engineering Laboratories, ATR International, Kyoto, Japan as senior researcher, where he engaged R&D of GaAs MMIC and high efficiency microwave amplifier. In 2008, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, École Polytechnique of Montréal, where he developed several microwave/millimeter-wave radiative structures by magnetic material. From April 2014, he is an Associate Professor of Meisei University, Japan. He received several awards including 2009 EuMC Young Engineer Award, MTT-S Japan chapter Young Engineer Awards. His current research is focused on microwave devices utilizing magnetic gyrotropy, and nanostructures and also microcontroller and HDL based engineering. He is a senior member of IEEE.
Recent emerging wireless and electronics technology is based on wide range of field from material science to computer science. Material science extends from simple composite and purity of materials to more advanced engineered material called metamaterial. The recent main character of computer science is not high power super computer but very low cost microcontroller, which supports IoT and big-data and AI systems. In this talk, topic starts from tiny microcontroller (AVR and ARM) and RF-capable SoC and the scope moves on to metamaterial engineering creating artificial magnetic gyrotropy. These two topics are quite different in the field but we can see their objective are same, the better human life.
