It’s OGS and NSERC Scholarship Application Time for the 2018-2019 Academic Year!

Are you planning on pursuing graduate studies at Carleton University at the Master’s or Doctoral level in 2018-2019? Carleton University students are encouraged to consider applying for an external award to help finance their graduate studies.

OGS (Ontario Graduate Scholarship) and NSERC (Natural Science and Engineering Research Council) Master’s and PhD scholarship applications are now open for the 2018-2019 academic year. All OGS and NSERC scholarship applications are now submitted on-line with the following closing dates:

APPLICATION CLOSING DATES

NSERC PhD Friday, September 29, 2017

OGS MA and PhD Wednesday, November 15, 2017

NSERC MA Friday, December 8, 2017

  • New this year, OGS scholarship applications are filled out on-line. Students must complete the online application via Carleton Central and upload the requested documents (found in Carleton Central under Awards and Financial Assistance, Graduate Online Application Forms).
  • Please provide your referees with plenty of notice in order to give them time to submit your Academic Assessment Report. Please make sure that your referees are academic, however students who are doing professional degrees or who have been out of school for a while may have a professional reference if they speak to the student’s academic abilities. Please choose referees who will give you a solid report as these are very important supporting documents for your scholarship application(s). If you have a supervisor, I strongly suggest that they be chosen as one of your referees.
  • Your OGS referees will be notified by email once you have submitted your application. Please notify them as early as possible that you will be requesting an OGS reference from them. Please email them the paper version of the reference form in order for them to prepare it in advance so that they can simply cut and paste their comments into the on-line form once they receive it.
  • NSERC scholarship applications continue to be submitted completely online. Leslie Main is Carleton University’s university designate.
  • Please make sure to fill out your applications with as must detail as possible and include TAships and RAships on your awards sheet, if you have space. These are often missed on applications and require an update. Please check your Carleton University transcript for more details of your Carleton University Awards.
  • You will need to upload a current version of your Carleton University transcript, even if you are a new student to Carleton this year. If you are currently enrolled in a Summer 2017 course at Carleton, please order an updated copy of your transcript through your Carleton Central once your Summer 2017 grades are posted, as these are required for your application.
  • Please note that the GPA minimum requirements for these scholarships are firm. If you do not meet the minimum 10/12 GPA over the last two years of full-time study, your application will not be accepted. Grades are not rounded up, so a 9.9 GPA does not round up to a 10.0 GPA.
