Welcome to the Optical Society of America (OSA)
Ottawa-Carleton Student Chapter!
OSA is a science society aimed to bring together scientists, engineers and anyone else interested in Optics and Photonics. Established in 1916, this organization became the leading professional society in the field of Photonics.
This OSA chapter was founded in 2004 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the city also considered to be the capital of North Silicon Valley. This Ottawa-Carleton Chapter unites students and researchers working in Photonics at both Carleton and Ottawa Universities and in local government research centres. The Chapter's activities include organizing various student events in Universities, collaborating with other science societies and organizations, supporting school outreach programs in Ottawa and Gatineau, and occasionally meetings to discuss student members' academic progress. Joining OSA and our Chapter provides unique opportunities for students to become involved in the activities of Ottawa and Quebec photonics communities, to interact with science and industry leaders and to take part in organizing events, which in turn help develop their own leadership skills (you can find more about our activities here). Moreover, OSA provides a full range of scholarships and awards for its members. Overall, joining the OSA and participating in the Chapter's activities is a great way to find out who works in your area and to get to know and network with these people! Information about joining our chapter can be found here. We hope that anyone interested in Photonics ranging from high school to graduate students, academics and private industry will find this website useful and informative!
